Lettuce Sprout

These are sprouting in pure vermiculite in a plastic container with drainage holes. Vermiculite soaks up water really well — it turns darker when saturated and you can see the tiny grains pop and squiggle as they glob onto water molecules. It’s still spongy after three days and is such clean, cozy bedding for seedlings.
